ASIANA AIRLINES is hoping that new bilateral air-traffic discussions between South Korea and Germany will lead to the carrier being given a much greater share of the European market.

South Korea's Ministry of Construction and Transport and the German transport ministry are scheduled to begin talks shortly on increasing services between Seoul and Frankfurt. Asiana is demanding access to Frankfurt, along with London and Paris, but faces strong opposition from incumbent flag carrier Korean Air (KAL).

Existing government rules, prevent Asiana from competing against KAL, on routes with under 210,000 passengers a year or requiring five or fewer frequencies a week.
