Baldanza finds new Spirit

US Airways has lost another senior executive with the departure of Ben Baldanza who has become president and chief operating officer of Spirit Airlines.

In his first low-fare carrier posting, Baldanza, who was senior vice-president of marketing and planning at US Airways, will be responsible for the bulk of Spirit's business reporting to chief executive Jacob Schorr. The experienced Baldanza, who has spent time with American, Northwest and TACA, is expected to take over from Schorr at some point.

US Airways, meanwhile, has reshuffled several positions to fill the gap. The most significant move sees Bruce Ashby, senior vice-president of alliances and president of US Airways Express, become executive vice-president of marketing and planning.
