France has agreed, to sell up to 550 Matra Mistral light surface-to-air missiles to Taiwan, according to sources based in Taipei. The deal was cemented during a visit to France by Taiwan's army chief Li Chen-Lin. The agreement includes launch systems for the missiles and associated equipment. The sale has already drawn criticism from China, which has yet to patch up its differences with France over the sale of 60 Mirage 2000-5s to Taiwan in 1993, along with Mica and Magic air-to-air missiles built by Matra.
