All 18 passengers and the pilot were killed when a Milne Bay Air (MBA) de Havilland Twin Otter crashed into high terrain north of Mendi, in Papua New Guinea (PNG), on 9 July. Preliminary reports suggest that the accident was weather-related. MBA suffered a fatal accident in Papua New Guinea earlier this year, when one of its Pilatus Britten-Norman Islanders crashed in high terrain on 11 May, killing one of the passengers.
