The Sri Lankan Directorate General of Civil Aviation has frustrated attempts by would-be start-up PeaceAir to firm up its memorandum of understanding, signed with Boeing last September, for a 747-400 Combi. It has been told that it cannot register the aircraft in Sri Lanka and that the Sri Lankan Government will not grant international rights to any carrier other than Air Lanka for 10 years. The move makes PeaceAir's plans for services to Latvia and Scandinavia, intended to start in January, impossible to implement.
