Aero Zambia will fill the gap left by the liquidation of Zambia Airways when it starts regional operations to Harare, Gaborone and Mbabane this month. The private carrier, owned by Belgian shareholders, was previously operating as the national cargo carrier. The ministry of transport has granted it rights to fly to London, Johannesburg, Rome, Frankfurt and Larnaca, which the carrier plans to start in April.

SA Express said at presstime the transport minister was to rule on its application by the end of February. SA Express still hopes to serve the Zambian domestic market and regional routes not allocated to Aero Zambia.
