Swissair regional airline Crossair is studying launching a new airline to be located in France. It would be majority-owned by French investors to get round Switzerland's non-membership of the European Union (EU).

Crossair says that it will "...decide on our plan of action in late June." It says that it is "too early" to reveal fleet and route plans, although the new carrier, provisionally called European Continental Airways (ECA), would be a "-regional airline connecting Switzerland to the rest of Europe".

A French company called ECA was set up in January at St Louis, near the Swiss border, although this would not necessarily be its home base as an airline. The lack of a Swiss-EU agreement prevents Crossair from taking full advantage of the EU internal market.
