A Soyuz launch vehicle has successfully orbited a capsule carrying three astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS).

The Soyuz launched from Baikonur, Kazakhstan, on 23 October, carrying a Soyuz capsule with one US astronaut and two Russian cosmonauts.

The ISS has been a focal point of launch activity in recent weeks, with several cargo craft docking and departing, including the first operational SpaceX Dragon capsule.

The Dragon capsule is scheduled to return to Earth on 28 October carrying experiments and mementos from the Station.
